Coca-Cola Salute to Excellence Scholarship

The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) and Coca-Cola are reaching out to college students to offer the support they need to continue their education in the restaurant and foodservice industry. The NRAEF and Coca-Cola will offer two (2) $5,000 scholarships to student honor delegates confirmed to participate in the 2008 Michael E. Hurst Student Forum.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for a scholarship, you must:

• Be a citizen or permanent resident* of the United States of America OR be a resident of American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands
• Be a student honor delegate participating in the 2008 Michael E. Hurst Student Forum
• Be a college student who is currently enrolled full-time or substantial part-time (minimum of 9 credit hours) in an accredited culinary school, college, or university
• Be enrolled for two consecutive semesters or not be entering your last semester before graduating
• Have completed at least one grading term of your college or post-secondary program
• Have earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
• Have a minimum of 750 hours of restaurant or food service-related work experience verified through pay check stubs or letters

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

To be considered for a scholarship, your application packet must include the following:

1. Signed hard copy of your online application.
2. Typed essays. Essay instructions are in Section 5 of the online application. They are not completed in the online application,but must be typed
    separately and mailed in with the printed, completed application.
3. A copy of your college curriculum (from your college catalog) with the number of credit hours detailed. Please do not include the entire catalog.
4. A transcript from your current college (unofficial copies are acceptable; report cards are not).
5. One to three letters of recommendation from current or previous employer(s) in the restaurant and/or food service industries.
6. Proof that you have worked at least 750 hours in restaurant or food service-related jobs:

a. Copies of paycheck stubs OR
b. A letter from your employer(s) verifying your total work hours
c. Please do not send copies of W-2 forms; they are NOT proof of hours worked.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Read the instructions thoroughly!
2. Fill out online application (www.nraef.org/scholarships)
3. Submit the application online
4. Follow the online printing instructions carefully. You will not be able to return to your application and print at a latter time.
5. Complete required essays. Essays must be typed.
6. Gather required documentation (see Required Documentation)
7. Mail application, essays, and required documentation on or before the deadline date. Documentation sent separately from the application must be
    postmarked by the application date or your application will be disqualified.

1. Your application will not be considered if it is:
• Handwritten
  
• Incomplete (missing any of the required documentation described above)
  
• Late (postmarked after the deadline)
  
2. Please do not send any paperwork that has not been requested. Do NOT put your application into a report cover, binder, or file.
3. You may receive only one NRAEF scholarship per year. NRAEF scholarships are paid over two
    consecutive terms, and overlapping scholarships are not permitted.

HOW SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE JUDGED AND SELECTED

Applications are judged by a panel of educators, industry leaders, and culinary professionals. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis.

The judges will score your application on the following criteria:

• Presentation (spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.)
• Essays (quality of writing, word count, etc.)
• GPA
• Industry related work experience
• Strength of the letters of recommendation
