ProStart® National Certificate of Achievement Scholarships

Application Deadline: August 15, 2008

Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered.

Through its ProStart® National Certificate of Achievement program, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) awards $2,000 scholarships to high school juniors and seniors who will study culinary arts and food service management at accredited culinary schools, colleges, or universities.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for a ProStart® National Certificate of Achievement scholarship, you must:

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

To be considered for a scholarship, your application packet must include the following:

  1. Signed hard copy of your online application. Your parent/guardian must also sign if you are under age 18.
  2. Typed case study. Case study instructions are in Section 3 of the online application. The case study is not completed in the online application, but must be typed separately and mailed with the printed, completed application.
  3. A copy of your current high school transcript. If you are a graduating senior, your transcript must include grades for your senior year. Unofficial copies are acceptable; report cards are not.
  4. If you are a graduating senior, include a letter of acceptance from the culinary school, college, or university you will attend
  5. If you are a high school junior, include a letter of intent stating that you plan to enroll in an accredited restaurant or food service program for a minimum of 9 credit hours

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Read the instructions thoroughly!
  2. Fill out online application (www.nraef.org/scholarships)
  3. Submit the application online
  4. Follow the online printing instructions carefully. You will not be able to return to your application to print it later.
  5. Complete the required case study. The case study must be typed and submitted with the hard copy of your application.
  6. Gather required documentation (see Required Documentation)
  7. Mail the printed copy of the application, the case study, and the required documentation on or before the deadline date. Documentation sent separately from the application must be postmarked by the application deadline date or your application will be disqualified.

REASONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION, INELIGIBILTY, AND RESTRICTIONS

  1. Your application will not be considered if it is:
    • Handwritten
    • Incomplete (missing any of the required documentation described above)
    • Late (postmarked after the deadline)
  2. You did not earn a ProStart Certificate of Achievement between September 1, 2007 and August 14, 2008.
  3. Please do not send any paperwork that has not been requested. Do NOT put your application into a report cover, binder, or file.
  4. You may receive only one NRAEF scholarship per year. NRAEF scholarships are paid over two consecutive terms, and overlapping scholarships are not permitted.

HOW SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS ARE JUDGED AND SELECTED

Applications are judged by a panel of educators, industry leaders, and culinary professionals. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis.

HOW YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED

All scholarship applicants will receive a letter from the NRAEF informing them whether or not they have received a scholarship. This letter is sent via U.S. Mail approximately eight weeks after the application deadline date. If you are awarded a scholarship, your letter will explain in detail how to claim your scholarship.
