Worksite/Internship Program

As part of the ProStart program, we encourage every student to participate in an internship or get job experience that relates to and reinforces what you are learning in the classroom.

Why should I participate in an internship?

There are many reasons why you should participate in an internship, especially since it can help you:

  • Gain real world work experience and skills
  • Get a head start towards exciting and rewarding career in the restaurant and foodservice industry
  • Continue your education and pursue a foodservice-related degree at a college or university
  • Earn your ProStart National Certificate of Achievement!

To earn your ProStart National Certificate of Achievement, you are required to work a minimum of 400 hours in any type of foodservice establishment.

Where can I get work experience?

There are many foodservice establishments throughout your community. As a matter of fact, there are more then you think. Food is served just about everywhere. Here are a few ideas to consider:

Fine dining
Full service
Quick service
School cafeteria
Business cafeteria
Sports park
Theme park
Nursing home
Catering/banquet hall

Hotel restaurants
Supermarket foodservice
Airport concessions
Cruise ships
