Students quizzed on restaurant and foodservice knowledge to earn scholarship dollars
CHICAGO – The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), in partnership with the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation (CKSF), is pleased to announce the launch of the new NRAEF Restaurant Management Scholarship Quiz for current undergraduate students pursuing a degree in the restaurant/foodservice industry. Unlike the NRAEF’s other scholarships, the partnership with CKSF will allow students to compete for scholarship dollars via online multiple-choice quizzes based on restaurant and foodservice industry content. Quiz content is taken from the ManageFirst ProgramTM, a college-level restaurant and foodservice management program from National Restaurant Association Solutions.
Students interested in applying for this scholarship should go directly to the CKSF Web site for information on how to apply and to take the quiz.
“The NRAEF is proud to partner with CKSF in awarding these unique scholarships to students pursuing an education and career in the restaurant and foodservice industry,” said Linda Bacin, chairman of the Board of Trustees, NRAEF. “The NRAEF is dedicated to building a talented and diverse workforce for the restaurant and foodservice industry, and together with CKSF, we are able to assist these future leaders.”
At the end of the monthly scholarship contest, scholarship recipients will be chosen based on their scores on a 15-25-item quiz focusing on restaurant management. The top 10 students with the highest scores will each win a $500 scholarship award. For the remainder of 2008 and throughout 2009, $60,000 in scholarships will be awarded.
These NRAEF-sponsored scholarships test a student’s knowledge of essential content being taught in restaurant and foodservice curricula. The quiz schedule is as follows: • September–November 2008: Monthly quizzes will be based on content from the ManageFirst Hospitality and Restaurant Management Competency Guide • December 2008–February 2009: Monthly quizzes will be based on content from the ManageFirst Controlling Foodservice Costs Competency Guide • March–May 2009: Monthly quizzes will be based on content from the ManageFirst Nutrition Competency Guide • June¬–August 2009: Monthly quizzes will be based on content from the ManageFirst Human Resources Management and Supervision Competency Guide Each student can only win one award per quiz topic, but he/she is eligible to earn multiple awards per year. Additionally, students who have already received another NRAEF scholarship are also eligible to secure NRAEF-CKSF awards. Full eligibility requirements are available at http://www.cksf.org/cksf.cfm?Page=Home&Subpage=RestaurantAEFS.

About the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation "We reward students for demonstrating what they know!" Developed and administered at Nova Southeastern University, the Common Knowledge Scholarship Foundation (CKSF) awards scholarships through the use of internet-based quiz competitions. Each scholarship consists of one or more quizzes with topics that range from common knowledge to specific academic subjects. The primary focus is to have an objective competition that rewards students who have well-rounded, practical knowledge, and not necessarily those with the highest academic standing. There are no essays or long applications to complete and a single CKSF registration is good from high school all the way through college and graduate school.
