Michael Gibbons is president and CEO of Mainstreet Ventures Inc., an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based founded in 1981. Since 1981, Mainstreet Ventures has set the standard for fine dining in six markets in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Florida and most recently Maryland. The company's portfolio includes Real Seafood Company, Gratzi, Blue Pointe Seafood Grill & Oyster Bar, Palio Ristorante, La Dolce Vita, Tidewater Grill, Ciao, The Chop House, Zia's Italian, Carson's American Bistro and its latest concept, EO Burgers.
Before forming his own company, Gibbons spent six years with C. A. Muer Corp., starting as an hourly employee and rising to regional manager.
Gibbons was 2009-21010 chairman of the National Restaurant Association. He joined the Association's Board of Directors in 2000 and has chaired the Government Affairs, SAFE Committee. He is a long-time member of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's Board of Trustees.
In 2007, Gibbons spent a month visiting Air Force dining facilities as a Hennessy traveler. As part-of a four-person team, he evaluated the facilities to help determine the winner of that year's coveted John L. Hennessy trophy.
Active in state restaurant associations, Gibbons is a former president of the Michigan Restaurant Association. He received its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award and was recognized as the 2001 Northwest Ohio Entrepreneur of the Year.
Gibbons is active in the communities where his restaurants are located and supports several charitable organizations. Giving back to the community is a part of Mainstreet Ventures' business philosophy, and the company raises more $500,000 annually for various causes.
Gibbons has a bachelor's degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati. He lives in Sylvania, Ohio, and has two children, three stepsons and eight grandchildren.
